Smooth Move | Another synth-driven tune composed mostly of Garage Band loops. | 04-2006 | Garage Band | |
Echo Master | My first ever "serious" GB tune. Mostly loops, but the guitar solo (such as it is) is mine. | 02-2004 | Garage Band |
If you haven't heard of Apple's Garage Band, then you're either a Windows luser or you just haven't been paying attention. Garage Band is Apple's home studio software "for the rest of us", and was a primary reason for me to return to composition/recording.

Here We Go Feelin' Good Louie |
Just a couple of quick takes of a drumless audio tracks (from Spencer Strand) overdubbed in GarageBand, with me playing my Roland drumkit "live" into drum sampler software. At this point, I'd been learning drums just shy of four months. | 06-2009 | Garage Band, Roland TD-9, Superior Drummer 2.1.1 |
Smooth Move | Another synth-driven tune composed mostly of Garage Band loops. | 04-2006 | Garage Band |
Filter Swoon | A synth-driven tune composed mostly of Garage Band loops. However, I did spend a lot of time adding effects to the loops to give them character. I did record a couple of simple tracks using the built-in keyboard window, which sucks, but was effective enough to get the song put together. | 02-2004 | Garage Band |
Echo Master | My first ever "serious" GB tune. Mostly loops, but the guitar solo (such as it is) is mine. | 02-2004 | Garage Band |

JappaZam | A short bluesey tune done in a raw style that was inspired by a live Zappa recordings (now don't be looking for that level of performance, though). | 1995 | Fender Squire Strat, Alesis Drum Machine, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
Slither | My first-ever recording on "somewhat" decent equipment (direct to stereo cassette). An atmospheric Andy Summers-esque instrumental thang. I called it "slither" because that's the way it sounds to me. | 1989 | Fender Squire Strat, Cheesy Casio Keyboard, ART Multiverb, Nakamichi Cassette Deck |
Love You | Kind of a cross between the Beatles and Nirvana. You gotta hear it to understand. Written and recorded very quickly, and it shows. Still one of my favorites, though. | 1995 | Fender Squire Strat, Applause Acoustic, Alesis Drum Machine, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
Little Cloud | Very different style for me. Very stripped down music, with vocals. Really just a sketch. I think it works though. | 1997 | Applause Acoustic, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
I've Been Waiting | Fairly traditional rock tune. I actually spent a bit of time making this one polished (well, for me). It even has a (minimal) bridge. Goofy words, but kind of fun. | 1995 | Fender Squire Strat, Alesis Drum Machine, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
I Wanted To Tell Ya | Another fairly traditional rock tune. One of my personal favorites. I'm happy with the bass line, and the general sound of the tune, which I think matches the words. | 1995 | Fender Squire Strat, Applause Acoustic, Alesis Drum Machine, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
Fundamental | Early 4-track recording. Three guitars and a bass. Atmospheric kinda thing. I like it. | 1990 | Fender Squire Strat, Harmony 12-string, Applause Acoustic, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
Falling | Another stripped-down tune with vocals. Recorded around the same time as Little Cloud. | 1997 | Applause Acoustic, Fender Bass, ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
Come To Me | An early recording with vocals. Probably one of my best and most imaginative recordings (though you may not like the style). | 1990 | Fender Squire Strat, Harmony 12-string, Cheesy Casio Keyboard (used for drums, too), ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track, wind chimes, Garfield coffee cup (slide for guitar). |
Austin Winter | A melodic instrumental tune with a guitar tone that is purely accidental. I had some kind of short or something, but I liked the sound, so I went with it. | 1990 | Fender Squire Strat, Harmony 12-string, Kawai K4 Keyboard (drums/bass), ART Multiverb, Tascam Porta-05 4-track |
