This Old SPARC

The story of a geek and his Sun SPARCstations (and UltraSPARCs), and the trials, tribulations, and small victories that go with the care and feeding of such a menagerie.

OK, I've updated the "family portrait" photo that is displayed at the top of each page. Buzz and sparky are on the left, and zap is on the right. Buzz and sparky sit on a metal rolling rack in the corner opposite my desk. The rolling rack makes "in-person" admin easy, since either one can be connected directly to the 20D10 monitor shown (note that this monitor is on its last legs - you can see that the picture doesn't take up the whole screen). This ability came in handy very quickly, as buzz failed his boot-up fsck, so I needed to do some local admin on him.

Zap is my main machine, so he lives on my desk. In the picture, he's shown displaying Netscape 4.7, which is actually running on buzz (ain't X great?).

Reorganized the home office today. I cleaned and put all my musical equipment away, and moved sparky and buzz to the rack that used to hold all my music stuff. This is great, because it puts the extra 20" montor and one of my kb/mouse sets to use again. The rack rolls, so installing cable, power, etc. is a snap. I love it. I'll post a picture soon. Until then, another piece of screenshot eye-candy:

This is the "home" viewport on my GNOME desktop on zap, the ultra 10. Yeah, I kinda like transparent terminals :-).
